When branding the biggest question is often "what"?
What will best represent us? What will directly convey what we’re about? What will our audience resonate with? These questions are what create impactful brands rather than a visual element that’s quickly forgotten.
In the context of sports, you want to be represented fiercely. You want to be characterised boldly. You want to be perceived as being ferocious and brutal. You want to be menacing and vicious. You want to do anything you can to win.
We often look at design projects and can quickly pull apart the elements that haved missed the intended purpose. We can all recall; the business card that makes any company look like an I.T organisation. The logo that looks like rejected clip art. Or the supermarket that for some reason uses the “Thrasher” typeface.
Frustratingly we as consumers look at these and often wonder to ourselves “did anyone working on this project have any measure of sense or ability to care”? Did anyone in that marketing meeting room know what they were talking about?

When creating a brand, I align everything visually to the heart, soul and goals of the project. In this case, the goals were to make a ferocious, bold and menacing figurehead to best represent a sports team.
I felt the perfect depiction of these elements was a cat with an expression of intense hostility. I wanted to create something violent and hostile that would invoke a sense of competitive aggression. Something that would look like a gang symbol that a band of brothers could rally behind.
In a competitive sense, this logo was for people who had an unrelenting will to never give up and to never stop competing. To always and continually strive for glory. To never let anyone deter them from their path and to always keep fighting to achieve incredible results and that feeling of triumph.
Emotionally this logo was to rev and charge anyone up in creating a sense of hot and unrelenting fury. This logo was developed for a team who wanted to dominate anything in its path and to set the bar high and a standard for others to follow.

As cats are typically represented in a “cute and cuddly” manner, I wanted to remove a Cat from this context and represent the fight and will this feline has. As they say “It's not the size of the Cat in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the Cat.” This logo aimed to represent the will power and strength in fighting.
It was important that on the first impression, you instantly felt the fierce ferociousness. When sketching out this piece, and picking out the colour palettes it was crucial that this logo conveyed a sense of unrelenting confidence.
My passion and love lies in creating illustrations, visuals and mascots that answer a brief or needs of a project. I love blending my artistic influences with a sensibility to have them meet a purpose for the intended project.
